Atheism vs Christianity: atheist faith vs Christian Faith

From meditations-on-life.com, here’s an article comparing atheism vs Christianity, and showing that atheists have the same kind of blind faith they accuse Christians of having.  It also points out other myths in the atheist/Christian debate that help perpetuate the notion that atheists rely solely on logic and evidence, while Christians rely solely on wishful thinking.

Here’s the link to the atheism vs Christianity article:

This article is aimed at a particular kind of atheist: the scientific materialist kind, such as Richard Dawkins.  Many of these atheists are deluded about what Christian faith means, what science can prove, and whether atheists even have a belief about God in the first place.

For some reason, many atheists will argue to their last breath that they have no belief about God.  They claim theists have a belief, atheists merely have the absence of a belief.  But this is absurd!  A “belief in” is not the same as a “belief about.”  Unless they have never heard about God or thought anything about the subject, they have a belief about the proposition “God exists.”  Given the religious zeal of many of these atheists, it’s hard to imagine that they are so passionate about a non-belief.  But they will argue till their blue in the face to say they don’t have a belief to which faith can attach.

And that’s another myth: that atheists rely solely on reason.  There are gaps in what human reason is able to prove about the universe, and there are limits to what science can study.  Science has no tools with which to analyze the metaphysical dimension of the human experience.  And as many Christian apologists have noted, materialism actually casts serious doubt on the validity of human reason, which is a problem for materialists, since it is by human reason that we even have a materialist account of the universe.

Another myth concerns what is meant by “Christian Faith.”  Atheists define faith as “blind faith” (i.e., belief without any evidentiary or logical support), and then conflate that blind faith with Christian “Faith.”  The two are very distinct, but when you hear atheists ranting and raving about “faith,” they are pretty much always using it to mean “blind faith.”  They then say that since Christians have “Faith,” they must have this kind of blind faith.

The truth is, atheists rely on blind faith for some of the assumptions they must make in order to assert a materialist account of the universe, while Christians have Faith that is grounded in a direct, personal relationship with Jesus, and this kind of faith is just as reasonable as having faith that one’s spouse or best friend is trustworthy.
